Geometric Patterns
Froebel's Influence on SAMARA
Tenth Gift

Drawing, the Tenth Gift, focused on the portrayal of forms to enhance observation. Constructed on grid paper, Froebel drawings were composed of patterns of large and small squares and triangles created by symmetrically coloring in combinations of partial and full grids to create beauty forms.

At SAMARA we see this method used in the breaking up of the four-foot module into smaller, but proportional parts. Examples of SAMARA's symmetry are found inside and outside of the house such as on the concrete floors, steps and glass plate windows.

The geometry of the flat roof, with its right-angled symmetrical shape reflecting off the windows, is a stunning example of Wright's repeating patterns of the four-foot grid.
