Finishing Concrete Floors at SAMARA
Plasticity

Steel and cement were "modern" materials to Mr. Wright in that they could be used because of their inherent nature for plasticity, and when reinforced, they can handle tensile and shearing stresses. From the first time Mr. Wright used cement as a building material for "Unity Temple", he realized its possibilities.

He developed precast textile blocks used first in California block housed like "La Minitura" and the "Storer Residence." As a superior material compared to wood, reinforced concrete could support the massive cantilevers of "Fallingwater."

Without cement, the floor heating system development would probably not have been possible. Many of the homes based around geometric designs were only possible because of the plastic characteristic in which concrete can be molded and formed as it dries.
