Frank Lloyd Wright's Use of Building Materials |
Philosophy of Materials Gary Stair Interpreter |
Overview An understanding of Mr. Wright's architecture is not complete without giving consideration to his philosophy regarding the nature of materials. His goal was to employ materials in relation to the work the material was designed to do. As a fundamental aspect, it should be recognized that this is another extension of his Organic Architecture philosophy in that appreciation of a material's unique attributes and characteristics were important. Wright believed that the materials which a building was composed should inherently determine its appropriate mass or size, profile, and proportion. |
