Frank Lloyd Wright's Use of
Building Materials

Construction and Decorative Elements
Ted Osborn
Interpreter
Steel Raw Materials

Mr. Wright always took the best raw materials, and without altering their integrity, worked them into the design. Red clay becomes red terrcotta brick. Mahogany wood provides a warm, decorative design element as well as the basic wrapping material for walls and trim.

Concrete and iron oxide become flooring material. Glass; strong and transparent, becomes the material that transitions between inside and outside. Mr. Wright uses building materials that work with nature and each other, to enhance human habitation.
