Frank Lloyd Wright's Use of Building Materials |
Construction and Decorative Elements Ted Osborn Interpreter |
Raw Materials Mr. Wright always took the best raw materials, and without altering their integrity, worked them into the design. Red clay becomes red terrcotta brick. Mahogany wood provides a warm, decorative design element as well as the basic wrapping material for walls and trim. Concrete and iron oxide become flooring material. Glass; strong and transparent, becomes the material that transitions between inside and outside. Mr. Wright uses building materials that work with nature and each other, to enhance human habitation. |
