Warm, Rosy Color of the Pfeiffer Fireplace
The Natural Glow of a Fireplace

The Sonoran Desert palette flows consistently from one of Wright's designs to another throughout the Scottsdale area.

Like the geology of the region, it's as though Frank Lloyd Wright spread the soft, pinkish glow of the southwest Arizona landscape into and through every conceivable space he had in mind for his people.

To begin with, the high-rising, cylinder-shaped concrete fireplace in the Pfeiffer residence at Taliesin West casts a warm rosy color from its location in the otherwise large, circular-shaped living room.

A cut-a-way portion of the cylindrical fireplace hood opens just below eye level to emit natural light that streams into the room through a light-screen in the roof.

Just like on the surrounding desert floor, the sand used in the concrete fireplace gives up its natural, soft pinkish color to the interior space of the house.
