Interior Color Scheme

After about twenty years (1974) when Dr. and Mrs Christian decided to replace the fabrics, the original Frank Lloyd Wright designed turquoise-colored fabric was no longer available from Schumacher Company.

Consequently, the Christians consulted with John deKoven Hill and Cornelia Brierly who were still the key interior designers for the Frank Lloyd Wright Associated Architects at Taliesin West for their recommendations. Using the basic principles established by Mr. Wright, they selected a new interior color palette featuring a variety of vibrant colors and hues.

The two main colors of the upholstered pieces in the living room are a moss green and an orange rust. The prominent green and rust colors of the upholstered furniture are accented with pillows on the long built-in seats along the bricked wall of the living room and cushions on the hassocks located on the main floor level.

The pillows show a wide range of accenting colors including yellow, redish-pink, copper patina, purple, gold, poppy, pink and white as examples. It's interesting how light affects the hues of green and rust found on the upholstered fabrics. The greens reflect a multitude of shades ranging from light to dark to mimic the wide variety of green-colored vegetation on the property. The rust colored fabrics reflect distinctive bright and dull hues changing as sunlight passes through the room each day.
