SAMARA Original Color Rendition
Early Discussions About Color Schemes

Frank Lloyd Wright's use of colors in all aspects of his designs was unusually innovative. During the preliminary stages of the Christian's investigation of Mr. Wright's architecture as a prelude to his selection as their architect, Mrs. Christian through her study of Mr. Wright's colored building renditions and building photographs recognized that, in general, his colors were somewhat subdued and less intense.

Accordingly, early on (1951-1952) in their more detailed discussions with both Mr. Wright and Mrs. Wright on the designs of SAMARA, Mrs. Christian requested the use of brighter and more intense colors in SAMARA.

Mr. Wright was not so sure about this but Mrs. Wright liked the idea who often expressed her opinions especially about interior designs. In a final response to Mrs. Christian, in cooperation with his primary interior designer, John deKoven Hill, Mr. Wright said, "We will see what we can do" about the SAMARA color scheme.
