Glass and Light Screens
Illuminating Wright's Designs

Throughout his career, Wright used glass as the building material that could accomplish the transition between the sheltered interior spaces of his buildings to the open, even hostile, outdoors.

Through careful manipulation of glass used for walls, windows and even roof panels, he allowed the sun to illuminate his designs.

It was, as he once wrote, "the best way to light a house, the natural way--God's way." With proper orientation, the sun, "the great luminary of all life," could dance through every room of the house at least once during each day.
