SAMARA Furniture and Its Use
In A Frank Lloyd Wright Designed Home

The Owner's View

Oriental Quality

Frank Lloyd Wright said to the Christians, "Your house will have an 'oriental' quality to it and when you add accent pieces to it, they should be of an oriental nature."

Accordingly, this was done, resulting in large oriental pieces and numerous smaller ones being added. As examples, large pieces include Japanese lanterns, terra cotta figures, Chinese three color lions, Thialand Budda, Thialand tiger, oriental chinaware and oriental type fabrics.

Hundreds of smaller oriental accent pieces were added over 44 years while living in the house. Many of the smaller pieces are displayed in the living room on the back of the built-in seats, on the cantilevered book shelves running the entire length of the room, on the stack tables and on the top of built-in hi-fi furniture.
