"Photographs that say a lot about Frank Lloyd Wright's genius of design." Ed Townsend, 1999

Adjusting the lens and light exposure of his camera, Ed prepares to take unique photographs from the lanai with Joyce and Dr. Christian providing encouragement.

The Nature of SAMARA shows up in these photographs taken outside the house. The lucious spring growth of evergreen trees, vines and scrubs provides but a glimpse of Frank Lloyd Wright's genius for uniting the inside and outside of the house into one continuous living environment.

In these outside photographs, Ed exploits the Nature of SAMARA through his photographs of vegetation around the house and property including the terrace wall, reflections off the living room windows, outside lamp along the drive and the mitered glass corner of the dining room and lanai.

Photographer's Comments
The outside light is special with its design continuity, nestled among the pines, source of the winged seeds for which SAMARA is named. To me, the photograph to the far right says a lot about Frank Lloyd Wright's genius of design. Innovations in this picture alone show no corner post, cantilevered construction, mitered glass corners, horizontal raking of brick mortar, glass wall, unit construction on a four-foot square and the same wood inside and out.
